Zoometrics - Smart Metrics for Smart Cities

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about Zoometrics and its suite of tools. If you are looking for the scientific literature, see the science catalog.

What is Zoometrics and which tools does it have?

Zoometrics is a software suite to jointly manage coexistence between people, animals and plants in the municipality, with geolocated data and a One Health approach. Its tools are: Meow Metrics®, a platform to manage cat colonies with the TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) method, in accordance with Ley 7/2023 de bienestar animal (Spain’s Animal Welfare Act); Ark Metrics, a citizen participation and full traceability tool from the street to adoption (trapping, fostering, adoptions, donations, volunteering) that shares data and identity with Meow Metrics; Wild Metrics, a map of encounters with urban wildlife with automatic or assisted impact assessment, to prioritize areas and actions, which starts with wild boar; Silva Metrics, an inventory of parks and gardens for towns and cities, with everything inside them, living and non-living: plants, furniture, play areas and irrigation; and Census Metrics, a municipal census of companion animals, with registration and identification.

What is the difference between Meow, Ark, Wild, Silva and Census?

The five tools are part of the Zoometrics suite, a software suite to jointly manage coexistence between people, animals and plants in the municipality, with geolocated data and a One Health approach. Each one covers a different area. Meow Metrics® is a platform to manage cat colonies with the TNR method, in accordance with Spain’s Law 7/2023. Ark Metrics is a citizen participation and full traceability tool from the street to adoption (trapping, fostering, adoptions, donations, volunteering) that shares data and identity with Meow Metrics. Wild Metrics is a map of encounters with urban wildlife with automatic or assisted impact assessment, to prioritize areas and actions; it starts with wild boar. Silva Metrics is an inventory of parks and gardens for towns and cities, with everything inside them, living and non-living: plants, furniture, play areas and irrigation. Census Metrics is a municipal census of companion animals, with registration and identification.

What does One Health mean in municipal management?

One Health is the approach Zoometrics takes to municipal management: jointly managing coexistence between people, animals and plants in the municipality, with geolocated data. Each tool in the suite covers one part of that coexistence: cat colonies, urban wildlife, parks and gardens, companion animals and citizen participation.

If you are preparing a tender or a project in these areas, ask us about our experience.

Does Zoometrics take part in R&D&I and innovation projects?

Yes. Besides local governments, we work with associations (there are currently 3 client associations with a current paid plan; source: Meow Metrics platform) and we are open to collaborating with foundations, companies and other organizations that manage wildlife, parks and gardens, or environmental projects for public administrations.

Does Zoometrics work with universities and research centres?

We collaborate with universities, researchers and innovation centres so that the suite’s data becomes scientific evidence and applied knowledge, and we maintain on this website a scientific catalog of publications on urban wildlife, health and biodiversity, always linked to the original source. If your team does research in these areas and would like to explore a collaboration, contact us.
